How to get natural long eye lashes...for the ladies!!!

Long, fluttery eyelashes are every woman’s ideal, but more often than not they’re more of a pipe dream than a reality. Short of lash extensions or prescription treatments, you’re pretty much stuck with what nature gave you, but there are some steps you can take to maximize your lashes. If you’re wondering how to get longer eyelashes without taking drastic measures, we’ll point you in the right direction.

Hands off!
It sounds—and is—basic, but rubbing your eyes is no good for your lashes, no matter how good it feels in the height of allergy season. Not only does rubbing loosen the lashes and cause them to fall out, but unwashed hands leave bacteria, dirt, and debris on the lashes, which can clog the hair follicles and hinder lash growth. If your eyes are itchy or irritated, try gently massaging your eyelids (with clean hands!) instead.

Keep your lashes clean.
Yet another reason to never fall asleep with your makeup on: anything that can clog the follicles, including eye makeup, will result in lash fallout and reduced growth. Using vigorous scrubbing motions to remove stubborn eye makeup will also cause the lashes to fall out. An oil-based makeup remover or cleanser is your best bet for removing eye makeup quickly and easily without pulling or tugging.

Apply oil.
Oil isn’t just the best way to remove eye makeup—certain varieties will actually help to nourish the lashes and encourage natural growth. Olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, and castor oil are all skin-safe options that will visibly help to add volume and thickness to the lashes with regular use. Just use a clean mascara spoolie to brush on your oil of choice before you go to bed at night.

Eat right.
A proper diet is always key for healthy hair, skin, and nails, so it’s only natural that it applies to eyelash growth, too. Foods rich in protein and vitamins are best—so basically, the kinds of things you’re always told to eat. Fish and eggs are both great sources of nutrients, as are green veggies, beans, and yogurt.

When all else fails…
Mascara’s got you covered. There are some seriously amazing mascara formulations on the market that will provide you with long, thick, enviable lashes in a minute, so if naturally long lashes aren’t in your future, you can totally fake it. There are amazing mascaras that actually use ingredients like panthenol and wheat protein to improve lash growth and quality.
